Waste to Energy

Belzona offers a wide range of epoxy-based repair composites and coatings to protect Biomass and Waste to Energy facilities from common issues like abrasion, erosion, corrosion, and chemical attack. These solutions help extend equipment life, minimise downtime, and reduce maintenance costs.
The Biomass Industry uses organic matter such as plant materials and animal waste as fuel, while the Waste to Energy sector extracts energy from waste through processes like incineration, gasification, pyrolysis, or anaerobic digestion. Belzona’s proven track record in industrial protection makes it an ideal partner for both sectors.

The Biomass Industry converts carbon-rich materials such as wood, crops, landfill gas, alcohol fuels, and household waste into thermal and electrical energy. In the Waste to Energy sector, the most common energy recovery method is incineration, producing high-pressure steam to drive turbines.

Phase 1 – Pre-treatment
Organic matter and recyclates are separated, dried, and processed into RDF or SRF. Belzona 2000 series elastomers repair and protect conveyor belts from tears and damage, while Belzona 1800 series products protect screw conveyors from abrasive wear, extending asset life.

Phase 2 – Reception & Storage
Waste is stored in large pits to ensure continuous processing. Heavy vehicle traffic and waste spillage cause concrete abrasion in unloading areas. Belzona 4131 (Magma-Screed) resurfaces and protects concrete, offering fast curing and high abrasion resistance. For slip prevention in wet conditions, Belzona 4411 (Granogrip) provides a durable anti-slip surface to enhance safety.

Phase 3 – Thermal Treatment Conversion
During incineration, machinery pipes face wear and erosion. Belzona SuperWrap II restores pipe strength and can be applied online to diameters from 3″ to 28″, offering a cost-effective alternative to pipe replacement.

Phase 4 – Emissions Cleanup & Residual Waste Handling
FGD units experience erosion-corrosion from lime and abrasion. Belzona 5892 protects against these conditions at elevated temperatures and resists a wide range of process chemicals.

Additional Facility & Structural Protection
Belzona 5871 provides thermal insulation and anti-corrosion protection for metal pipework, preventing burns, corrosion under insulation, and condensation.
External structures like chimneys and roofs face weathering from acid rain and ash particles. Belzona 5111 shields these surfaces from chemical, abrasive, and corrosive attack, prolonging structural integrity.
